Somehow I missed posting this first blog about our trip!
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think we would visit China! We went to Macou, Disneyland and Hong Kong. Technically, Macou and Hong Kong are "Special Administrative Regions" of China - SAR's - and the residents have different passports.
All the areas that we visited are relatively new - the airport is only about 10 years old - so overall, everything is clean and very modern. The public transportation - ferry, train, planes are very high end and comfortable.
As you have probably heard it is very crowded but, like Roger says at least they're all little people! We are not well schooled in the art of pushing and shoving and the proper use of our elbows! We soon realized that if we wanted to get an elevator, eat at a buffet or get a seat anywhere we would have to get aggressive! The stroller worked well as a "battering ram" to push our way through the masses. You won't believe what I did on the airplane on the way home - I had waited in line to use the restroom and just as it was my turn a lady hopped out of her seat and pushed her way in - I grabbed her arm and pulled her out and said "No! There's a line!" My mother would be so ashamed of me but Heather was proud - says I might survive in Malaysia after all! Guess I was just pushed over the edge!
The Malaysians and Chinese love children but you can't imagine the attention two blond haired, blue eyed little girls get! Strangers come up and touch them and want to take their pictures all the time! Two men at the gas station saw them in the back seat of the car and wanted to take their picture and Kyle said NO! I'm sure most of them mean well but it spooks me out!
Many of the Chinese wear face masks to protect them from disease - guess we just took our chances!
Kyle and Heather and even the girls are much more adventuresome eaters than Roger and I. Buffets are very popular and they typically offer Thai food, Chinese food, Indian food, and Western food. I couldn't even look at some of the weird food let alone try to eat it!
I'll write about each of our adventures separately.
