Arches National Park

We arrived at Arches National Park, near Moab, Utah, Sunday. We are staying at the Devils Garden Campground, an 18 mile drive back into the park! What a unique campground amidst the rocks and canyons! Our site was advertised to accommodate a 40 foot RV but……Roger really needed to wedge it in! Can’t have a campfire – the pit is under the front bumper!
We hiked to Tapestry and Broken Arches this afternoon. A fun hike though the canyons – in sand desert and up and over what they call “slickrock” – I think of it as shale. The literature says there are over 2,000 natural arches here in the park. They define an arch as “any opening that is 3 feet wide in any direction.” We’ve seen two!
Make it 3 – we walked around the campground last evening and there is a huge arch behind the outdoor amphitheatre. There was another wind storm last night – the dirt blowing so bad we couldn’t see “our view” and rocking the motor home. There is dust inside all over everything this morning! Still windy today - no hiking – it blows dust in your eyes and we are not in the mood to eat dirt!
