We got settled into our summer "home" in Michigan and then left on our European vacation - a 14 day Viking River Cruise. We were at the Delta check in counter and who walks up but Scott and Kay Douglas and friends - on their way to France for a wine tour. We had dinner with them at PF Chang's in terminal. What a small world!

We are traveling with our friends, Mike and Lorraine Lynch and flew into Amsterdam a couple of days early so we could tour the city and see the tulips. Our flight was great and a minivan picked us up at Schiphol airport as scheduled. I commented on how great it was when a "plan came together" only to be informed at the hotel that they had overbooked and would have to transfer us to another hotel. Finally there, we were informed our rooms wouldn't be ready until 3pm. So much for plans!
The weather was 57 degrees and sunny so we walked around and took a canal boat tour of the city. Rivers and canals everywhere and millions of bicycles! You have to be careful - you are as apt to be run over by a bike or scooter as a car!

Because of a housing shortage, many live on houseboats! |

Large hooks at the top of the houses serve as a pulley to bring furniture etc. in thru the windows! |

Be careful walking out the back door! |
We toured the Anne Frank house last evening - what a sobering experience! A walk through the Red Light District on our way back to the hotel finished our day. With prostitutes posing in the store fronts it gives "window shopping" a whole new meaning! No pornographic pictures from that area!
Had a good nights sleep and ready to explore more today!
