Happy Birthday, Megan!

My "Bicentennial Baby" is 33 today! Where has the time gone??
We are in Burnet, the weather was nasty yesterday morning but cleared and was beautiful in the afternoon so, Roger was able to keep his appointment with a flight instructor. Just "brushing up" his flying skills in a Piper Cub. My first question was "Did you have fun?" He had a great time - even landed on a grassy strip on an island in Lake Buchanan! We'll have to go back for a picnic! He is finishing up today. Then its back to San Antonio to finish his airplane.
A park employee was weed eating Monday afternoon and a stone shattered the window over the couch. Hoping to get it fixed while we are here - not sure it will "travel" well if we have to drive back to SA.
Looking forward to spending some time in San Antonio. Still think of it as "home." Guess because it is where things are familiar - friends; restaurants; shopping; HEB!!

Austin

We spent the week-end in Austin with Megan & Carlos; Heather, Samantha & Emily and of course Dylan (although he wasn't around much, due to Samantha's constant harassment!) It was beautiful weather - we went to the Rodeo and helped them with their garden project. Back to the land of good restaurants! Heather made Megan a chocolate/oreo ice cream cake for her birthday and we snacked on that all week-end. Between Megan's good cooking, eating out and that cake our waistlines did not fair too well! Emily is all smiles and almost able to turn over by herself.
We drove to Burnet today. Roger has appointments for flight "re" training in a Piper Cub tomorrow and Wednesday. Hope the weather cooperates - predicting scattered thunderstorms. We will return to San Antonio, the end of the week, and stay until we leave for Michigan.

Spring Break

Retirement is like living "spring break" all the time! The weather has been gorgeous this week and we've had fun with Samantha here. Went to the zoo and the beach and have had picnics at the swimming pool. We are packing today and will leave for Austin tomorrow morning. Heather & Emily will be there too and then Samantha will go home with them. Kyle will return from Kuala Lumpur on Friday - Samantha will be so happy - she misses him a lot!

Brrrrr.........

We had beautiful weather the first of the week and then a cold front blew in - temperature in the 50's, windy and misty rain. Probably won't get any sympathy from relatives in Michigan but the "spring breakers" will agree it's lousy!
Roger & I spent most of yesterday mapping our summer trip out east - searching the Internet for campgrounds and places of interest. We are up to the end of July in New York City. Need to confirm some camping reservations so I can then buy tickets to a Broadway play - think we will see "Jersey Boys." Half the fun is in the planning!
Getting "cabin fever" today - may need some "retail therapy!" We signed up to play "Euchre" at the clubhouse tonight and are going to Mexico tomorrow with friends.
Kyle is back in Kuala Lumpur for 3 weeks - so Samantha is coming on Sunday to stay with us next week. Hopefully, it will help Heather to have just Emily for awhile - she is so busy with work; selling the house; planning the move and taking care of the kids. Plus, we need to get all the memorable moments in while we can!

Happy Birthday, Me!

I have been celebrating my birthday (notice I said celebrating, not counting!) for 3 days! We played in a golf outing on Thursday with several teams from the park. The "golf gods" were not good to me and I fed the fish too many golf balls but we played with Dick & Gwen Benson, a nice couple that live here in the park, and had a good time anyway. They just returned from a 6 day trip to Copper Canyon in Mexico - a trip we have been wanting to do for years - and gave us the "scoop" during lunch. Maybe we can do it next winter. Marion made me a lemon pie, yum! Then we went out to dinner last night with Dave & Marion and Dick & Janet - a local steak house that, when David told them it was my birthday celebration, brought out a saddle for me to sit in while they sang! Luckily, I was seated "inside" in the booth so I could decline! Gotta' get that David back! Tonight the "Jetson's" are playing 50's, 60's and 70's Rock & Roll at the clubhouse - we can dance the night away from 7pm until 10pm!
Roger really splurged and got me a "Kindle 2" - the electronic book from Amazon. I love it - great for traveling! Samantha called and sang "Happy Birthday, Tima!" - best gift of all!

Sugarland Visit

Roger went to Connecticut on business last Monday so I headed to Sugarland for some "cuddle time" with Samantha and Emily. Emily, now almost 4 months, is sitting up and reaching for things - so content - smiling all the time. Roger flew in on Thursday so we took Samantha to the zoo on Friday - always a fun adventure with her -she loves the animals! We stayed with the girls on Saturday morning while Kyle and Heather sold unwanted household items at a local church garage sale. A little reminiscent - just the beginning in their preparations to move. Their house is for sale and they have had several "showings" - the market remains good in Sugarland.
We flew back to Harlingen Saturday afternoon. Love our "free" Southwest flights!
Another good Samantha story: She sent me to "time out" for "not being nice to Grandpa" - I was nagging at him about something! - "We're supposed to be nice to our friends" - While I was standing in the corner she came and asked me if I was "thinking about it & if I was going to do it again" 'cause if I did she would tell my mommy! When she finally let me out she said "Go give Grandpa a hug and say sorry!" Of course, Roger loved it - wants to send me to "time out" on a regular basis!
